We are thrilled to announce that the Discovery Building at Rothera Research Station is the first project in Antarctica to have achieved an “Outstanding” BREEAM rating.
Like LEED in the US and GreenStar in Australia, the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is a measure of a building’s sustainable and environmental performance. Only 1% of accredited projects merit “Outstanding”. As architects we are especially pleased with the high scores given for “design for wellbeing” and for “innovation”.
The certification demonstrates what can be achieved by a highly motivated and creative team working in an extreme location when everyone pulls together. At Hugh Broughton Architects we are thrilled to have played our part in delivering this multi functional and beautiful building which is supporting science of global significance.
